How Long Do Overnight Oats Last? Everything You Need to Know
So, you’ve made your overnight oats, and you feel like you’ve got your life together with breakfast ready and prepping itself in the fridge *fit bump in the air*. Then you think, hmmm, why not prep these for the whole week? But how far ahead can you actually make them?
How long do overnight oats last?
Based on my experience, overnight oats are best consumed within 3-5 days once prepared, depending on the ingredients and how they’re stored.
I recommend storing them in a sealed, airtight container rather than covering them with glad wrap, and keeping them refrigerated at 5°C or below.
Overnight oats are great for meal prepping, but keep a mental note of when you made them. If you notice an unusual smell or other signs of spoilage, throw them out.
Will overnight oats get too thick?
Yes, they can! The oats and seeds continue absorbing liquid, which means your overnight oats can get thicker the longer they sit in the fridge. One great thing about overnight oats is that if you find they’re too think for your liking once it’s set, simply add a little extra milk and stir it through until you reach your preferred consistency.
Another tip - save your toppings, like granola, fruit, yogurt until you’re ready to eat. Doing so keeps everything fresh and not soggy!
